Why I awoke at 5:30 am on a Sunday morning is an issue. Perhaps it was the dream I was having about fishing for Red Snapper that made me sit up in bed. Then my mind began racing as to how I would go down to the bay today and purchase some fish to bring home and prepare it for dinner tonight. What would I serve along side the fish? I thought hush puppies, and coleslaw. That's it! I was done with sleep. I got out of bed, went to the kitchen and after making coffee, I searched for the necessary ingredients to make the side dishes, Vidalia onion, yellow stone ground corn meal, milk. It's all here. I poured a cup of coffee, went out to the porch and watched a bumble bee going about his daily chore of visiting all the flowers in the garden. At that moment I realized why I awoke so early. It wasn't about red snapper or hush puppies. It was about not wanting to miss what I sometime take for granted. The coo of the Mourning Dove, the warmth of the early sun, a tree frog sitting on my wind chime, or a lone Bumble Bee collecting pollen from a Sunflower.
I'll still make hush puppies tonight along with some awesome Red Snapper and possibly some killer slaw thrown in, but today the highlight for me is that Bee bringing joy to my world on this early Sunday morning.
